I am an ER RN in New York with 21 years experience. I am relocating to South Carolina. What can I expect my hourly rate to be?
I came from California and chose not to work for 2 yrs bc (1. Child rearing obligations and 2. I didn’t want to get paid peanuts compared to what I was used to LOL).
Anyways, the State average is $35-38/hour HOWEVER—-> with your experience level in this field combined with the markets current desperation for nurses means that you can and SHOULD ask for $40-45.
I was recently offered a job at MUSC in Charleston (psychiatry) which has been my discipline for 10+ years and they offered me $35 but I asked for $40 and they were quick to say yes. I got irritated with myself for not asking for more.
So long story short…ask for more! 💪🏽
I just moved from CA to GA and have chosen to do local travel assignments because the pay here is less than half what I made in CA. Travel nursing pay is closer to what I was paid before and can sustain my family better. With travel positions, I can take time off when I want between assignments and have more flexibility since I'm also in grad school.
33-35/hr
I'm in Virginia, and the staff pay here for that much experience is around $40/hr, I imagine South Carolina would be similar. The south pays less. I have a cousin who's a nurse in New Jersy and she is making $60+/hr.
I just left SC & though the pay is lower than NY, so is the cost of living. With your experience you could see in the mid $40s possibly more depending on location and their needs. Hope this helps! Best wishes!
Basically, it will be lower!
I got offered a job in MUSC outpatient infusion clinic for $34 per hour with chemo and OCN certification and 4 years of experience. I’m coming from $54 per hour pay from MD.
36 Is someone with moderate amount of experience but with 21 years I would say you should be looking at right around $46 an hour. Where are you planning to move I live in Charleston area
I am in South Carolina. The base rate here is about $33/hr. If you are more experienced, up to $45, and with zero, I have seen $28 for some. Just a range, and I would tell you to negotiate the experience factor. The cost of living down here is less, houses are super cheap, and you will save money in that area.
Checking sites like glassdoor, indeed, and payscale should give you a great idea of what to expect for your level of experience. Also, it's a great bargaining tool to ask for the appropriate pay.
Rates in SC, are much less than what you are currently getting; I took a 30k+ salary cut.
