I graduate nursing school in December and have been offered a job in Mother/Baby. Even though I like MBU, my dream specialty is the NICU. Should I take the MBU job then transfer to the NICU or try to find my dream job?

I would take the position in MBU and later transfer to NICU. You will work closely with L&D and the NICU as a MBU nurse and you'll learn a lot about neonatal care and get your skills down.

I went to Nicu straight out of school . If it's your dream job I would do everything you can to get there and if you can't find an opening there then go to MB.

Yes! Definitely take the MBU job to get your foot in the door. In some Mother/Baby nurses are to float to NICU to take care of the feeders and growers. That can create an opportunity for you to get hired once a position opens. Since you’re familiar with the NICU environment already. All the best in your nursing career.

As a nursing student myself, I would definitely take the MBU and then when nicu had open positions you’ll then be able to apply for a transfer.

Yes take the position and then transfer you’ll already be under the mother baby umbrella which is good you’ll get to see some of NIcu when they transfer babies to your side and get to know some of the nurses
