I've been a practicing nurse for more than a year and my preceptors always made me feel unworthy and anxious. Has anyone experienced this? What did you do?
On behalf of most RNs with long- standing experience, I apologize for your bad experience. Unfortunately there are people who are nasty and strive on throwing around their experience in contrast to your lack off as you are a new nurse. We all started out with lots of book knowledge and had to learn on-the-job. Talk to your supervisor to see if they can help by pairing you with some else. In the past as a nurse manager, I did the work with my new manager nurses. We want you to have the best experience, we want you to stay on the job; we want you to be happy being a nurse!!
Unfortunately some nurses seem to find it necessary to be nasty. Dont take it personally i know it may be hard not to but perhaps your preceptors have their own issues u know nothing of. No excuse but u cant change them. Observe them see how they practice take the good parts of them with you for your own practice. Make sure you know the policies of the institution you work for but seek out the seasoned older nurses they seen alot done alot and have alot to teach. Thet may have a ragged attitude but you’re not there to make friends you’re there to learn and no one better to learn from than those who have been doing the job for years and years they just may not have the teaching finese but u will still learn
