Nursing Informatics is the only tech job I can think of without actually being in the tech field. It was a bridge to the tech field when I was in it (I am in IT and nursing currently). There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer as a super user for your EMR upgrades too if you use Epic. There are also other 3rd party software projects that could use volunteers to help and gain some experience. You can also pursue a degree in Nursing Informatics online.
I work as a contract research RN at Apple. Any company that has or is developing a wearable device for health tracking uses RNs in the development of these devices. I also interviewed at Samsung for a similar position for their Watch team. Keep an eye out for these jobs as they are out there.
IF by tech you mean IT/EHR the information on informatics is correct. There are many University RN Informatics RN/MSN and post degree certificate programs. I used to teach in Pitt's program, and Slippery Rock University of PA has on online cert.
IT and EHR are not the only TECH jobs nurse can do. Look at the manufactures. I did some contract education for Zoll when they first came out with their AEDs and the hospitals needed familiarizations for nurses (I was an ICU manager and CCRN at the time). The companies that manufacture the ICU equipment all need nursing input into the devices as well as trainers.
Right now if you look at the CES (formerly Consumer Electronics Show) you will see there are a plethora of medical consumer devices popping up. There should be nursing input there too.
In fact I know that one leading manufacture of continuing glucose monitors is a DNP who is responsible for product development and world wide medical affairs.
Don't wear blinders. Be open to "the odd stuff if you are looking for TECH"
Nurse informatics is in demand.
