It’s definitely difficult in the beginning but once you factor in the driving and gas you save and actually having additional days off or a second job it’s a good thing. I actually was really finding it difficult to go back to a 8 hour day. I have to work my second job on Saturdays which only leaves me
One day a week off. So give it a try and remember to always get a good nights sleep each night especially on those work days. Eating well and exercising(esp cardio) also help. Sounds corny but not keeps you strong!!
Best of luck!!! Pace yourself and you will
Find out if the 12’s are your thing!! They aren’t for everyone but I am
Hoping it works for you!!
Personally, yes. Especially NOC. Overall sense of feeling sick and bloated.
"The International Agency for Research into Cancer (IARC) has classified night shift work as category 2A (probable carcinogen)."
For inpatient hospital work, day shift, its mostly aching legs, swelling in BLEs and brain fog due to low blood glucose and chronic critical-thinking, prioritization and decision-making. I know this isn't a sustainable work environment for me anymore. I've done bedside nursing the past 10 years. It's grueling work.
Working 12 hours is nice for the hours when you're off. I worked 12 hr shifts for years but this is what I found out. It is hard on your body, as you work hard for the time you're at work. I had a lot of neck and back problems when working 12 and they got better when I went to shorter work days. It is hard on your family. It is hard on your social life and you are so tired when you get home, you dont want to do anything in the pms. Also you cant take classes or anything in the pms so you miss out on social time.
I had burnout and stress. That lead me to pains and sometimes even unregular eating.
I worked 12 hour nights for three years. Never again. There are so many jobs available, find 8 hour shifts!
