Thinking ab going back to the hospital but got burnt out on Med-Surge Tele. Opinions or experience on the following floors: CCSDU (critical care step down), PCU, TNCU (trauma neuro care unit)?
Stepdown, critical care, progressive care are all perfect places for a change, however they are also places people burn out. Unfortunately there is a shortage of nurses and burnout is real and during the pandemic many nurses (some estimate 20%) simply didn't return to the bedside.
Take an inventory of your needs and wants for the new job and shadow for 1-4 hrs to see teamwork, communication and managerial style in action. That will give you a better sense of whether the job will fit your needs.
PCU I’ve noticed in eastern and northern areas are a lot more efficient based on patient ratio as well as time management. 3-4 patients max, and if you’re dealing with vented patients then it’s def 3 patients. I used to work in ICU and NICU for ages and have noticed this is the area I’ll more so stay in. As for south Florida good luck ratio can be up to 5 patients, CA is pretty good with ratios as well as overtime pay.
