I have worked as an outpatient dialysis RN my entire career (4 years now) and looking for a change, what other positions would I be eligible for? I don't think inpatient suits me and other outpatient clinics require experience. Any advise?
Apply to everything, regardless if you have the experience they are requesting. Perhaps try outpatient pre-op? That’s a pretty easy job that doesn’t require a ton of critical thinking or extensive skills- but it gets your reintroduced to the type of nursing and skills that most jobs are looking for. I have a friend who did NICU for the first 5 years of her career, but was getting burnt out at bedside and needed a change. But all she’s ever worked with a super sick tiny babies so her knowledge and skills didn’t translate too well to other nursing jobs. But she got a otpt preop job, loves it, and now they have cross trained her for PACU. It’ll open a lot of doors for her. Give it a shot!
I went from op dialysis to inpatient. You being with you specially skills that are coveted from dialysis. I suggest doing a year and then see if it fits. I did surgery to have pts not so chronic or med surg for more chronic less acute disease. The most important thing is find a job that your values align with their mission?
