I am a Tele Med Surg RN with 3 yrs experience from CA moving to FL in August. How much will i be making in FL?
Much, much less!
I’ve noticed the hourly rate seems to be pretty much the same regardless of the hospital. I’m talking about the Tampa Bay Area. But I’ve also noticed that in terms of south FL as a whole.
I’m not in the same area as you, so take that into consideration.
I’ve experienced the drop twice. In 2006, I moved from Los Angeles to Tampa. At that time, I had 5 years of experience as an Endoscopy RN abroad; and 3 years of Med Surg Unit experience in CA. I don’t remember the specific rates now, but it was more than I expected. So much that I went back to CA in 2009.
Two years ago, we moved from MN to FL (Tampa again) due to my husband’s job. I’ve continued to be an Endoscopy RN after 2006. The pay cut this time has been $15/h less! That’s for the 4 hospitals in my area.
I’d advise you to do your research in terms of other aspects of the job (and hospital reputation from nurses point of view) as well when making your decision. Some hospitals are offering a bonus, but be aware it’s not all paid right away. They want to make sure you stay with them, so the sum is usually divided in 4 installments: a month, 6 months, 12 months and 24 months later.
Florida is on the lower end of salaries for nursing positions.
I’m moving from Chicago to Tampa. My pay is decreasing by 30%. And it’s not anywhere near 30% cheaper to live there.
I’m not sure how much you would make an hour. But a co worker of mine (I live in Northern Ca) actually lives in Florida and kept his per diem job. He flys to CA and works a bunch of shifts in a row and flys back to Florida. He said he makes more money doing that (including flight costs) and the laws for nurses/ ratios in CA are untouchable. He’s an ICU nurse and from what he said was given an unsafe assignment multiple times in Florida before he had enough and quit. And then got his job back in CA while continuing to have his family in Fl.
What part of Florida and which company are you looking to work with?
In the ED at Adventhealth Orlando, nightshift was making up to $35-$40 with differentials.
35 to 45 per hour in Gainesville. More than that in Tampa or Miami.
MUCH MUCH LOWER. I am an RN with a Doctorate degree and years of experience, and they wanted to pay me 38 bucks an hour. Really?
a quarter less salary after taxes
It rains every day. Except for the beach and palm trees, it is ugly. Totally flat with all kinds of animals and insects that will eat you alive. 3/4 of the year it is so hot. You take a nice shower, put on your uniform and by the time you walk to your car you are totally soaked with sweat. The heat and humidity combined are too much. When you go to the store a lot of the people can't speak English so don't ask for any help. Wages are horrible.
Much less, maybe half what you're used to. Once you get a Florida license it becomes publicly accessible. Just tons of recruiters will contact you. I actually find it overwhelming. Many many hospitals very actively recruiting staff but they offer like $35-45/hr with large moving allowances. BTW it is SUPER EASY to get a FL license so within a few days you could be receiving all these offers too! I noticed COVID caused Med/Surg rates to increase cuz every hospital wants people who can handle a high churn rate, so perhaps if you time your application with a COVID spike you might get a better offer!! Good Luck!
Much less. Why in God's name would you leave CA to move to FL? Anywhere but FL. It's nasty there
That’s awesome! I haven’t been actively looking yet since i will be moving in August but i will be moving to the Space Coast area and prefer to work days since i am burned out working nights here in CA. If i may ask, do you know what is the nurse to patient ratio in Tele or MedSurg unit at AdventHealth?
Competitive rates Although FL is south and the lifestyle is slow laid back
