Most places like at least 1 year medsurgical nursing on the floor befofore going into a recovery area and a lot are requiring icu experience

Fresh out of nursing school is the time to focus and gain important bedside skills, both invasive and noninvasive. You can obtain these not only in hospitals but ambulatory as well.
As far as new grad residency, it is not a must but can add valuable credentialing for future opportunities.
