I have been applying to RN positions everywhere (hospitals, LTC, SNF, dialysis) since I got my license a few weeks ago. It has been week 3 of job hunting and I'm receiving endless amounts of rejections. I'm feeling very discouraged at this point.
When I became an RN in 2000, where I did my clinicals oncology hired a bunch of us. Maybe go back to where you did your clinicals and see if they are hiring. Good luck!
Sorry that you’re feeling discouraged. Not sure which state you’re in, but there are start up medical companies that are hiring & willing to train new grads. (E.g Forward ). Also fresinius does hire & train new grads. Insurance companies? For reference I got my license back in 2009 in NYC, took me 6 months to land a job. Get creative, Stay the course & good luck.
Look for New Grad programs, I know it is extremely frustrating when you graduate looking for a job because they want you to have experience but how can you get experience if they don’t give you a chance, I had the same issue. If you are interested also look into home health jobs some agencies have New Grad programs too, I know my company does. I work home health in pediatrics but there’s also geriatrics and hospice.
You need to network. Try volunteering in community health clinic locally. Talk to the doctors you know and see if they will let you work in there clinic for a few months externship so you can put something on your resume. Try your local LGBT center. They are always looking for healthcare help too.
What state are you in? Have you submitted a strong resume? When I have a resume cross my desk I first notice if it appears professional.
I graduated 09/30/14. Took my boards and passed 11/6/14. I didn’t find a job until 1/14/15.. it’s frustrating but something will come. If you haven’t looked into corrections, try there. I did 8 months LTC and went to Corrections for 4 years and LOVED IT!
I am so sorry you feel this way and am currently in California. It’s very competitive here and I tried for at least a year. I was not a new grad, but a former clinical RN out of practice (last 5 years) and essentially it is the same in my opinion, except I think it was easier as a new grad. Keep applying, talk to recruiters, talk to nurse managers, call HR, review the job description to ensure you have all the certifications they want (e.g. ACLS, PALS, BLS), call the hospitals to see if they offer new grad programs, talk to schools to see if there are preceptorships to network. I got a job at the local jail, so even prisons and jails was a last resort, but it worked. I understand how you feel. Good luck and best wishes.
Come to Texas. We are screaming for nurses. Especially in Private Duty Nursing-Pediatrics. There are very flexible schedules and pretty good paywith benefits.
Try usajobs.gov and search for Bureau of Prisons. Not sure were you ate from, but they are always hiring nurses. They have great benefits and retirement, and they will hire new nurses. The only thing they look at is your credit and they do a thorough background check. Good Luck, you will find something soon!
Hello, you may have to step out of your comfort zone and what I mean is travel a little way from home for 6months until more jobs for new grads open up. COVID-19 has made hospitals, SNF LTC facilities desperate. This has made it easier to hire experience nurses as travelers or offer permanent jobs with extra benefits etc. Unless you have a great story to tell to make something about yourself your stand out, as a new grad it can be difficult. Think of something good or bad (not horrible) that had a positive outcome. Something that if read by the manager who had a job opening would make her remember you. Remember it will be something you wrote or talk about during the interview process. This is the perfect time for nurses to be teaching nurses, especially since we have a reprieve from COVID. When asked if you have any questions always have some kind of question preferably about the hopsital or unit you have interviewed for. Good luck!
Well I heard you’re supposed to get at least a year experience from somewhere else 🤣 I wonder where they want you to get it; but anyway I advertise you use Registry or take a job in a skilled home. I hope this helps
Hi I'm sorry you are going g through this. I work in a nursing home and they are always looking for RN. I think it's worth a try and it's experience.
What city and state are you searching? You may need to relocate for work. Some hospitals will pay for relocation and offer a hiring bonus, and loan forgiveness. Please look around and weigh your options, because right now, the world is your oyster!!
Congratulations. Look into Davita. They hire new RNs. Paid training too. That’s how I started. Good luck and best wishes.
Apply for a State or county position. Or, as previously mentioned. The hospitals you did your rotations during RN training.
What part of the country are you in? VA is always looking for Nurses. Always join the military. I assisted new officers in the Air Force
that were fresh out of RN school. Break a leg.
I did apply at the hospital where I completed my internship before I graduated in 2000. Maybe, you can apply at the hospital where you completed your clinical, get from your mentor and include in your application and resume.
Are hospitals still doing Residency programs for RNs? Pre-Covid there would be 2 or 3 residency groups per year. In any case, your best bet is to communicate and network - talk to the talent acquisition folks at a few hospitals/ companies. Ask them what they recommend. Talk to your nursing professors and any knowledgeable people at the college. Ask any of the people who rejected you if they have any suggestions or other positions they think you’d be a good fit for. Also, don’t get discouraged. Sometimes there are dry spells. 3 weeks isn’t really that long. You’ll find something.
you’re a new grad? i first started as a nursing assistant and got promited, but at this point your more advanced. i would start at a smaller, less known hospital, try outpatient clinics, etc. search online for ‘nee grad RN’. get a year experience in anything and then u can mover anywhere
That's what I felt right now I keep on applying despite Its my 4x been rejected.
What kind of feedback are your receiving following your interviews? Also, make sure your resume is complete and easy to read.
I’m in a similar boat. I’ve been a NICU RN for 16 years and I’m trying to transition out but no luck so far.
Fresenius Kidney Care has a hiring event this month.
What state are you in? Try applying for jobs like kindred hospitals. There hospitals that require no experience and will hire you on the phone on the spot. You can start from there and start applying after 6 mos or 1 yr to others after.
I’m sorry this is happening but don’t let this change what you want. It’s so important to be happy and have support wherever you go. I’m guessing you’re a new RN so I would suggest looking at places that cater to new nurses. Many large facilities aren’t worried about experience and in fact don’t want it so they may teach you “their” way. Look for residency programs that will offer support as this is not like any other job you’ve ever had.
Good luck!
Look for job positing that hire RN resident/Residency program because that’s how I started. I started out at a community hospital rather than magnet/big hospitals. Sometimes these places are closer than you think!
I was in your shoes at one point. Don’t be discouraged, keep applying your door will open soon
Try a vaccine clinic or registry, that’s what I did.
I'm a veteran RN,BSN of 26 years. Have an extensive background in many different areas of nursing. It took me 5 months, during a pandemic and apparent nursing shortage to secure even a PRN position. There were many "excuses" or boilerplate responses why I was declined. Dont be discouraged and dont settle! Much luck in your new career!!
Everywhere in Missouri is hiring. Best bet is a teaching hospital, they most often have the residency programs, but also critical access is a good start because they don’t have a huge population to choose from most of the time. I can’t imagine where you’re at that doesn’t need nurses like crazy!
Start in a rehab to get experience they hire new grads
I don't know where you are located. You might try relocating to an area that has a nursing shortage to gain your experience and then the world should be yours. Western Nebraska always needs nurses.
It is unheard of for a nurse to have a hard time finding a job around here (eastern Idaho). I would guess your main problem is just your location because of unusually high competition for jobs??? This is very weird to me. Can't find a nursing job??? Go figure.
I can relate, keep trying
Where are you looking? I work at Fort Carson, CO and we are looking for an RN for Pediatric Clinic. You can apply on USA Jobs. Good Luck.

Fresenius hires new grads. Fmc a.com
I'm in California and I'm a new grad. My resume is is just like a new grad's resume and is as professional as I tried to make it.
I am as well. There are no nursing positions on Amelia Island, for part time.
Health care is being robbed. Leaving no vacation and too high patient load. Nurse leaders are imbed with educators. Basically the RN role has been sabotaged. Good Luck.
