What are the pros and cons to starting on a Med-Surg floor as a new grad nurse?

Apply. Nursing shortage almost guarantees you'll be hired.

Cons .. may have to work nights first

Pros…learn to manage multiple responsibilities , will always be learning , good way to enter nursing. Gets one ready for other areas . My experience is that RN ‘s that transition to icu , ER etc are better prepared if they did some kind of MS/Tele nursing first .

I worked Med-Surg for over 20 years as a LPN then as an ADN-RN. It gives a variety of situations that can enhance your career path. You can get a feel for what you want to do in your career.

Do you like Med Surg cause often it's better to apply yourself to a focus that fits your interest.
