What is ER Observation like? I’m having a hard time finding feedback from this unit. I would be in between this and med surg unit. (I am a new grad)

ER observation cares for non-admitted patients who need to complete the work-up or admitted patients who are waiting for a bed. The observation unit has its own team of providers. Some examples may include pts with chest pain who need a stress echo before discharge, a kidney infection who need 24 hrs of IV antibiotics before changing to oral and being discharged, a pt who needs to go to OR for fracture repair after a car crash. The ratios are generally 1:5-6. The turnover is fast. You may flip all of your beds and sometimes twice during your shift. Pts typically need to be ambulatory and able to use a call light. It’s a great place for a new grad to be exposed to lots of different things and learn to be organized and manage time.
