I am a new grad RN and want to work at a hospital in NYC. All jobs so far are asking for experience. Does working at an outpatient adult care facility count as experience?
When I graduated in 1981, it was mandatory to work 3 years of med surg before moving to a specialty. I did that then moved to the OR which I loved. I feel med surg was a great experience which I learned a lot from especially how to manage my time and prioritize. This is so important! I worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC. They are excellent at trading new graduates and welcome them! It’s a great place to work!
Just take what department they offer, then if you want to transfer that’s always possible.
Best of luck and don’t give up the search!
Absolutely, immersing yourself in treating adults with diverse conditions, especially those who are confused or disoriented, forms a solid foundation for elderly care. Enrolling in ACLS classes and embarking on pre-op/post-op training, along with the support of a backup anesthesia team, not only enhances your qualifications but also boosts your prospects for securing a hospital position.
Yes ,it would count. You would be working as a Nurse . Period!
