You sure can! ER nurse here. Nine years ago, I started through a new grad ER program - had zero emergency experience. Also, some hospitals have transition programs for experienced nurses wanting to switch specialities - you’ll get an extended orientation with a preceptor.
Yes. Get a job that gets your foot in the door and/or near it. For example, EMT, ED tech, medical scribe, and unit clerk positions will put you in front of the right people. Medical scribe and unit clerk positions preferably in the ER.
Yes of you clinical experience
Yes, you can. Most ER units are short of personnel, and they usually train new people for at least a month
You certainly can. It just depends on the facility that is hiring. Is it a teaching hospital? Do they have staff that can precept AND are willing to precept?
The thing to bear in mind, however, is that new grad ER nursing comes with a VERY steep learning curve.
You got to know a little bit about EVERYTHING, from childbirth, psych, cardiac, respiratory, peds, etc.
But it is POSSIBLE.
The question is are you willing to move forward.
Yes, some facilities are hiring. That is how I got into ER and I love it.
You absolutely can The only person holding you back from getting the job you desire is yourself I admire someone who wants to work in an ER setting without experience Always ask questions when in doubt - never guess - and enjoy what you worked so hard to obtain Also, prepare to never sleep again as you keep up with all those ER certifications 😊
