The color doesn’t matter. But you want a good quality one. One that you can hear lung and heart sounds clearly. Littman or MDS instruments. If you are in critical care, then get a cardiology one.
No color doesn’t matter but quality does
Not at all, but a really great stethoscope makes all the difference. I love my Littmann Cardiology I’ve had forever.
I would just stay away from yellow, since that’s the color of the disposable stethoscopes from isolation rooms.
The color doesn't specifically matter but you can get a very distinctive one that you can identify again when a doctor walks off with it or go the opposite direction and hope it doesn't catch thier eye.
No, it does not. As long as you keep it clean. Just remember light colored stethoscopes get dirtier easily. You just may have to clean them often.
Yellow = disposable in isolation rooms, so avoid yellow. Lighter colors stain easier. I wore a neon orange one in the ER so docs wouldn't walk off with it (they will do that!) and I could always see it. When I was in NP school I had my name engraved on the bell bridge of my cardiac scope. You can also have your name imprinted on most stethoscopes when you order it for a very small extra charge. It's worth it!
As mentioned before light colors do stain easy and transfer color very easily, especially if you are carrying in the pocket or around the neck of a dark colored uniform.
Yellow seems to be the universal disposable color.
But sticking with a dependable brand and common color is best option because IF you were to continue your education, the possibility of color restrictions could hinder you (this would prevent buying another anytime soon) & you can always buy stethoscope markers to tag your name, or put other things on it to set it apart from other people's. That what you can remove those items if necessary.
Depends on how easy you are ant to spot and locate it 😜
