What are some of the best ways to make myself a competitive NICU RN candidate? I am a new grad and have been working med-surg. It is just not for me. I always knew NICU was for me but most places will not even give a call back. I have my BSN!

Does your hospital have a NICU/maternity ward? If so, I would personally reach out to the manager and show you are interested. I know they hire nurses that come from med/surg for a fact. It is competitive out there for these units and my best advice is to never give up. Put multiple applications out there for hospitals in your area and know that sometimes Level III/IV NICU’s are far and few in between so that being said you may have to travel around in the beginning. Also, I have heard some units are smaller and can’t always take newer nurses until they have enough senior stuff to teach those nurses. Don’t give up! GL!!
