How long does it take to attain Occupational Health certification and will employers hire you while in process?

Why do you want to do that? Understand that occupational is not about helping patients get better. The patients I had had modalities that never worked and were not recuperative.

You really do t need to have the certification to work as an employee health/occupational health nurse. You just have to know up to date health care employees required vaccines from CDC, PPD test. On you resume, focus on you safe medication/vaccines administration.

3000 hours of OHN work in the last 5 years. I worked as an OHN in the petrochemical arena and I sat for it somewhere in my 2nd year working for the company. I did the COHN-S since I hold a BSN. I didn't need it to work for the company and many of the other OHNs including NP's didn't have it. It was something I wanted for myself. There were other certs the company required but the COHN-S was something I just wanted to do. Some companies will give you a year or two to obtain a cert when they hire you. Check out the ABOHN certifications page, there's one for case management too. Hope this helps.

If I were looking to hire an Occupational health nurse, I would be looking for experience in case management or employee health. There are varying degrees of employee health si I would look at each one. I believe to sit for certification you need 1 year of actively working in the area and I believe a BSN.

Critical care experience can help you get a job in OH, while you work on OH certification. You need about two years experience in OH to apply for certification.
