General nursing scholarships
Advanced Practice Healthcare Scholarship Program
Amount: Up to $25,000 per recipient
Available to: California residents who are attending school to become nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and nurse midwives and attend a California Board or committee-approved program.
Requirements:
- Must be enrolled in a minimum of six semester units, or its equivalent, until program completion
- Has a GPA of 2.0 or greater for most recent academic performance or equivalent
- Maintain a GPA of 2.0 or greater, until program completion
- Not have any other existing service obligations with other entities, including other HCAI programs
- Not be in breach of any other HCAI service obligation
- Commit to providing a 12-month service obligation in an underserved area or qualifying facility providing 32 hours or more per week of direct patient care within six months of graduation
- Be a California resident
American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Scholarships
Amount: Varying amounts offered by multiple AACN-affiliated scholarships
Available to: The American Association of Colleges of Nursing provides a comprehensive list of scholarships available for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree in nursing. Each scholarship is offered by a different funding source.
Requirements: All applicants must be enrolled (not just accepted) at an AACN member institution. Further requirements vary by scholarship.
American Nephrology Nurses Association (ANNA) Career Mobility Scholarships
Amount: Multiple career mobility scholarships are offered by ANNA-affiliated funders, ranging from $1,000 to $4,000.
Available to: Qualified ANNA members in the pursuit of either a BSN or advanced degree in nursing.
Requirements:
- For NNCC Career Mobility Scholarships, candidates must hold current certification through the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC).
- Current full member of ANNA, having been a member for a minimum of the last 2 years as of the awards/scholarship application deadline date
- Actively involved in nephrology nursing related health care services
- Accepted or enrolled in a baccalaureate or higher degree program in nursing.
- Each sponsor may request candidates meet additional criteria to those listed. Any additional criteria will be listed annually in the call for applications published in the ANNA Update and on the ANNA website.
Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses Foundation (AORN) Scholarship
Amount: Varies by student
Available to: Undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing or advancing a career in perioperative nursing.
Requirements: Applicants must be interested in perioperative nursing and plan on continuing their education in the field. They must have a 3.0 GPA or higher. International students are welcome to apply.
AvaCare Medical Scholarship
Amount: $1,000
Available to: Students who are pursuing a degree in the medical field.
Requirements:
- Citizen of the United States or in possession of an Alien Registration Card;
- High school senior or enrolled in an accredited U.S. college or university;
- Achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0;
- Pursuing a degree in a medical field such as therapy, nursing, medicine, nutrition, laboratory science, dentistry, health law, etc.
Although all students with the above criteria are welcome to apply for this nursing school scholarship, preference will be given to students with a physical disability.
B4 Brands Barbara Rhomberg Excellence in Nursing Scholarship
Amount: $1,000
Available to: Non-traditional, full-time students pursuing undergraduate degrees in nursing.
Requirements: Must be a non-traditional student, defined as a student that did not immediately continue their education after high school (at least a 3-year gap between high school and enrollment in a college or university).
California Emergency Nurses Association Scholarships
Amount: Varies
Available to: The California ENA awards two scholarships each year.
The Terri Sturgill Scholarship is awarded to a non-nurse enrolled in a nursing program and pursuing an initial RN license.
The Daniel Kelleher Scholarship is awarded to someone who has an RN license, is enrolled in a nursing program, and has shown commitment to the ENA.
Requirements: Applicants must be a member of the California ENA and match the criteria for each scholarship.
Coursey Enterprises Student Scholarships
Amount: $250 each spring and fall semester
Available to: First-year nursing students enrolled in an RN or LPN program.
Requirements: Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
DAR Caroline E. Holt Nursing Scholarship
Amount: $2,500
Available to: Three students who are in financial need and who have been accepted or are currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing.
Requirements: Students need to prove financial need and provide a letter of acceptance to a nursing program or current transcript.
Emergency Nurses Association Foundation Scholarships
Amount: Between $1,000 and $10,000
Available to: Members and nonmembers seeking to further their education with degrees ranging from associates to doctoral degrees, as well as conference scholarships for members interested in attending ENA’s annual education and networking event.
Requirements: Applicants who are ENA members must be in good academic standing to qualify for all scholarships, along with additional criteria; nonmembers may apply to all non-RN scholarships and one undergraduate option.
The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association General Scholarship
Amount: Up to $10,000
Available to: These scholarships typically reflect a specific area of specialization within the nursing profession such as oncology, critical care, emergency nursing, or a certain population of the nursing profession that is often underrepresented who plan on focusing on a specialty area.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or Alien with U.S. Permanent Resident Status or hold an Alien Registration Number.
- Undergraduate scholarships are available to students currently enrolled in a state-approved nursing program leading to an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN), Diploma in Nursing (hospital-based nursing program), Direct-Entry Master’s Degree, LPN/LVN-RN Degree, RN-BSN/MSN Degree, or Accelerated BSN (12-18 Month Program). Funds are not available for graduate study unless it is for a first degree in nursing.
- Students must graduate after July 1, 2025 to be eligible to apply.
Health Resources & Services Administration Nurse Corps Scholarship Program
Amount: If accepted, the Nurse Corps will pay your tuition, fees, and other educational costs, along with a monthly stipend. In return, after you graduate, you work at an eligible health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses (critical shortage facility).
Available to: Undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree in nursing.
Requirements:
- Note: The Nurse Corps gives funding preference to those who need the most help financially.
- Must be a U.S. citizen (born or naturalized), a national, or a lawful permanent resident
- Must be an accepted or enrolled student in a nursing degree program at a United States accredited school of nursing
- Must begin classes no later than September 30
- Must not have any federal judgment liens
- Must not have an existing service commitment
- Must not be overdue on a federal debt
Josh Gottheil Bone Marrow Transplant Development Award
Amount: Multiple awards up to $2,000
Available to: Registered nurses working in bone marrow transplantation who want to attend either a virtual or in-person nursing continuing professional development specific to transplant nursing.
Requirements:
- Currently employed as a registered nurse working in stem cell or bone marrow transplantation. Preference will be given to non-advanced practice (bedside) nurses with a minimum of 75% devoted to direct patient care.
- One or more years in nursing practice prior to the application due date.
- The program or conference start date cannot be before August 1st.
- Applicants must agree to complete a 3-question report following the selected program.
- The conference must be specific to transplantation.
Nurses Make a Difference Scholarship
Amount: $1,000
Available to: Current students in an undergraduate nursing degree program at an accredited college or university, or high school students who have been accepted into a college and plan to study nursing.
Requirements: All applicants must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 and be a legal resident of the USA or hold a valid student visa.
Ruth Abernathy Presidential Scholarship
Amount: $1,250 for undergraduates and $1,750 for graduates
Available to: Undergraduate and graduate students who are members of SHAPE America and are majoring in the field of health, physical education, recreation, or dance.
Requirements:
- Must have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 overall on a 4.0-grade point scale.
- Must be a current member of SHAPE America. Students may join at the time of application.
- Must be majoring in the field of health, physical education, recreation or dance.
- Graduate applicants must be enrolled in a matriculated full-time master’s or doctoral program (Doctoral candidates working on their dissertation must be no more than one year beyond coursework completion).
- Undergraduate applicants must have college junior or senior class standing;
- Must have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 overall on a 4.0-grade point scale.
NADONA LTC Stephanie Carroll Scholarship
Amount: Varies
Available to: Nursing students enrolled in an accredited nursing program who are pursuing Long Term Care or Geriatrics.
Requirements: Applicants must make a commitment to practice in long term care and/or post-acute care for at least two years after graduation.
- Must submit with their application, a double-spaced typed/word-processed essay of no less than 100 words that addresses why the candidate wants to become a nurse and their commitment to the nursing profession, including goals for nursing career after graduation.
- Must practice in long-term care/post-acute care for at least two years after graduation.
- Must show proof of acceptance for the upcoming school year and accreditation;
- Must include a list of school-related expenses with final total;
- Must submit with their application, a double-spaced typed/word-processed essay of no less than 100 words that addresses why the candidate wants to become a nurse and their commitment to the nursing profession, including goals for nursing career after graduation.
Tylenol Future Care Scholarship
Amount: $5,000–$10,000
Available to: Students and practitioners who are seeking a degree to actively treat patients.
Requirements:
- Must have one or more years of school remaining.
- Must be a resident of the United States, Puerto Rico or the District of Columbia.
- Must be a graduate student or college senior enrolling in graduate school in the upcoming academic year.
- Must provide proof of enrollment in a graduate program for nursing, medical and/or pharmacy.

Nursing Scholarships for Women
S. Evelyn Lewis Memorial Scholarship in Medical Health Sciences
Amount: $500–$1,000
Available to: Graduate or undergraduate young women in a program leading to a medicine or health sciences degree, or high school seniors who will matriculate as a full-time student into an accredited undergraduate medicine or health science degree-granting program in the fall of the award year.
Requirements:
- Applicant must be female.
- Applicant must be enrolled full-time in the upcoming academic year (Fall/Spring).
- Applicant major must be a program in the field of Medicine or Health Sciences.
Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund (SBMEF) Scholarships
Amount: $2,000–$10,000
Available to: SBMEF offers multiple scholarships for women who are pursuing undergraduate or post-secondary education, as well as ongoing professional development.
Requirements: The scholarships are open to women meeting the requirements of each national scholarship listed on the SBMEF’s website.
Nursing Scholarships for Men
American Association for Men in Nursing (AAMN) Scholarships
Amount: $1,000
Requirements: Applications will be evaluated on a weighted scale using the following categories, listed with the areas of highest emphasis first: Personal statement, financial need, volunteer/community service history, professional associations, reference letter, academic status, honors/awards, resume, certifications, and workload. Each application should include information related to as many of these categories as possible.
Nursing Scholarships for Students with Disabilities
AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship on Health and Disability
Amount: $1,000
Available to: Students with disabilities who are pursuing studies related to health and disability, particularly majors that will impact the quality of life of persons with disabilities.
Requirements:
- Undergraduate Applicants: Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student and must have completed one full year of college or more. In other words, the applicant must have sophomore or greater status in a program at a college or university pursuing their degree as of fall 2024.
- Graduate Applicants: May be enrolled part-time or full-time in a graduate school, pursuing a post graduate degree as of fall 2024.
- Important: applicants who have not yet graduated from high school will not be considered. High school students entering college, for the first time, in the fall of 2024 are NOT eligible to apply. The only exception would be for high school students who have achieved sophomore status via high school AP course credits.
- Applicant must have a disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act and must provide documentation to verify this.
- Preference will be given to students majoring in public health, health promotion, disability studies, disability research, rehabilitation engineering, audiology, disability policy, special education, or other fields related to disability and health.
- Preference will be given to students with a history of community service and/or volunteer activities.
- Applicant must be a US citizen or legal resident living in the United States and enrolled in an accredited United States university.
Those who serve on the Disability and Health Journal Editorial Board are not eligible for the AAHD Scholarship.
ExceptionalNurse.com Scholarships
Amount: $250–$500
Available to: Nursing students with a documented disability who have applied to, or already been admitted to, a college or university program on a full-time basis.

Nursing Scholarships for Veterans
Army Nurse Corps Association (ANCA) Scholarship
Amount: $3,000
Available to: Students who are enrolled in a bachelor, advanced nursing, or nurse anesthesia program who are serving or have served in any branch of the U..S. Army. This scholarship is also available to their parents, spouses, and children.
Requirements: In addition to the factors above, applicants must be enrolled in one of the following:
- Graduate degree in related healthcare fields (such as Public Health) in furtherance of a nursing career
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- RN to BSN
- Accelerated Nursing Degree programs
- Graduate Certificate in Nursing (minimum of one year (2 semesters) in length)
- Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN)
- Anesthesia and Nursing Doctoral programs
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Health Professional Scholarship Program (HPSP)
Amount: 100% of tuition and fees, as well as monthly stipends
Available to: Students who are veterans and are receiving education or training in a direct or indirect healthcare services discipline.
Requirements: Applicants must be U.S. citizens and have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 3.0 with 15 earned credit hours. Further requirements vary by program. See the VA website for a full list of awards and their requirements.
Nursing Scholarships for Underrepresented Groups
The National Black Nurses Association Scholarships
Amount: Starting at $1,000
Available to: Scholarships are open to students at all levels (LPN to Doctorate). See the NBNA website for the full list of available scholarships.
Requirements:
- Must have at least one full year of school remaining.
- Must be a member of NBNA and a member of a local chapter (if one exists in your area). If a chapter does not exist within a 50-mile radius of your location you may join NBNA as a Direct Member.
- Must be currently enrolled in a nursing program (LPN/LVN, ADN, RN-BSN, Generic BSN, Masters, Doctorate) and in good scholastic standing at the time of application.
American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES) A.T. Anderson Scholarship
Amount: $1,000 for undergraduate students, $2,000 for graduate students
Available to: AISES members pursuing any STEM-related degree such as Architecture, Mathematics, Medical Sciences, Physical Science, Technology, Nursing, Engineering, or Natural Resources.
Requirements:
- Must be an enrolled citizen or a descendant of an enrolled citizen of a federal or state recognized American Indian Tribe or Alaska Native Village; or Native Hawaiian or descendant from a Native Hawaiian; or Pacific Islander or descendant from Pacific Islander; or Indigenous person of Canada. Enrollment documents and/or a copy of birth certificate(s) showing descendency from an enrolled citizen, Indigenous group of Canada, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander are acceptable. Applicant may also, instead, provide a copy of their Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood or Certificate of Degree of Alaska Native Blood (CDIB) card. Please note, AISES may not always have scholarships available for non-citizens of the United States.

American Indian Medical Scholarship (AIMS)
Amount: $1,500 per semester. Students can receive the award every semester as long as they remain in good standing.
Available to: AIMS gives students of American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Hawaiian Native descent the opportunity to pursue careers in nursing, healthcare, and health education. The scholarship is specifically designed to assist students who, following graduation, plan to work on reservations or in hospitals that serve Native populations with the goal of improving healthcare within those communities.
Requirements:
- Recommended by a counselor, teacher, or other school official
- Enrolled in a tribe or village. If not enrolled, students may be considered if they can prove direct tribal ancestry.
- Focused on a career goal directly related to the healthcare needs of American Indian, Alaskan Native, or Hawaiian Native communities.
- In need of financial assistance.
- A high school graduate, in the last semester of high school, or have equivalent education. Post-graduate students are also eligible.
- Enrolled in an accredited school.
- Enrolled in a professional health program, having achieved good scholastic standing in pre-nursing or pre-med program OR enrolled in a health care or health education program.
- Expected to graduate two years after enrollment (Associate’s degree) OR expected to graduate four years after enrollment (Bachelor’s degree).
- In good academic standing as required by their school.
William K. Schubert Minority Nursing Scholarship
Amount: $2,750
Available to: Members of underrepresented groups who are preparing to become pediatric registered nurses.
Requirements:
- If the student is a current Cincinnati Children’s employee and is eligible for benefits under the organization’s Tuition Assistance Program, s/he is eligible to apply for the scholarship.
- Student should be a member of one of the underrepresented groups in the registered nursing profession. Underrepresented groups include male nurses / nursing students and nurses / nursing students who are American Indian or Alaskan Native, Black or African American, Hawaiian Native or other Pacific Islander, Hispanic or Latino, and / or Asian including Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Asian Indian, Thai, or Vietnamese/Southeast Asian.
- Student must be enrolled or accepted in a prelicensure registered nurse program (bachelor’s or master’s degree) at an accredited school of nursing on a full-time or part-time basis.
- Student must have and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
